Starter Problem?

Default Starter Problem?

Here'* a good one.. .My car won't start. No click when I turn the key, but the lights come on, guages, windows, everything electrical works.....I read on here many posts, and I atttempted to replace the starter. (I replaced and took apart and fixed one back in the 80'* off an AMC Hornet ) Well, today I got over my head I am sorry to say...I found out that I dont have the right tools or knowledge of what bolt holds what on and what to take off to get the stuff apart to get the starter off. Not to mention how slimy it is up in there. I know, I know, that'* what Goop is for. After I decided to close it up and admit defeat, I cross threaded the positive battery thread (side mount) and couldnt get it on..after 30 minutes of trying, ..I bought a new battery....screw it. At 5 minutes before close I went to Checker Auto.
So I have a $50.00 starter with a lifetime warranty, and a new $85.00 770? CCA battery and an old battery of the same type that'* 2.5 years old with a cross threaded positive thread. My car still won't start. I am still looking at getting it towed and hoping somebody will install the starter I purchased. I am not feeling too good right now.
I wish I was a motor head.... Ohh Did I mention it was raining all day here and I was soaked from being drippped on under the car?
The lesson I learned is to pick up the phone before I pick up tools.

Sorry to hear that things didn't go better. Perhaps you don't have a starter problem? What is your security light doing?

Archon is in Michigan if you decide to smack someone around..lol

The starter is held in by two 15mm bolts. There are two electrical connections on the back of it.

Can we help you with information? This should take a new person about an hour or two.

I was under the car and couldn't figure out how to get at the bolt on the back side. There was a piece of plastic (felt like plastic) part covering/interfering with the bolt head.
I could get to all the other connections.

OK, I am at work, my wife is at home. She calls a friend of her sister who says DON"T INSTALL THE STARTER, take it back. He tells my wife to erase on the key chip (She has the spare set), and lock and unlock the cars several times with the key remote and by using the door locks. IT STARTED It'* a security issue...not the starter. It started several times while I was on the phone. I kept telling her.."ok, start it again".....What a sweet sound...
The only thing is, she erased and did the lock thing all at once, so I am not sure what actually fixed the issue. I am curious what will happen with my keys since I did not erase it yet. Then I can determine if the locking and unlocking did it or not..
Now to get my money back from Nellie at B&M auto for the starter I never used.
I am going to this guys house tonight to see what he knows about security issues.
From what I have read here, it has to do with how the security light acts after starting the car? My wife said it stayed on solid for well over a minute after starting.

Ahhh the security light...

VATS - Vehicle Anti-Theft System aka biggest PITA ever installed.

Over time the chip in the key (the chip is a resistor) can corrode slightly or even go bad. Your wifes key might have been fine and your key might be bad.

Yes, that'* what I am thinking since she doesn't drive it except for one or two times a year...It'* too big for her.
