Default SSEI heated seats burning

I have a 2000 Bonneville SSEI, its in great shape and low miles. But i got in a bad crash a while ago, all fixed but has been sitting for a month or two. When i get in it to start it to make sure everything is good, i try all the buttons but when i try the heated seats they get really hot very fast and start to have a burning smell. Any clue as to what might be wrong? And if so hat could i do to fix it?

Does both the cushion and the seat back get too hot, or just the cushion?

The seat and the cushion each have a temperature overload sensor that shuts the heat down when it gets too high, but the chances of both failing at the same time are slim. More than likely the controller mounted to the bottom of the seat has failed. Why don't you try switching controllers between the passenger seat and the driver seat and see if the problem moves? Just undo the 2 nuts under the front edge of the seat cushion, lift the cushion as far as it will go, undo the electrical connections, and undo the 2 (3?) screws that hold the seat heat controller to the seat bottom.

If the problem moves with the controller, you need a new one. If not, we need to look elsewhere for the problem.

Your description is changing and I can't help without a correct description. First you report both the cushion and the seat back are overheating, and now you are reporting just the cushion gets hot. Which is it?

Pull the switch unit out of the console. Transfer the wires from the driver side switch to the passenger side connections on the switch, and transfer the passenger side wires to the drive side connections on the switch. Test and report findings.
