Security System VATS
ok so heres my problem.....
lately whenever i put the key in to start the car, the first time i try to start it, it kicks on the security system and i cant start it
i wait the three minutes (very annoying) and second time i try it always starts
now to tell you i have remote start on the car and i believe it is wired with this, i have a manual on it so i believe it is in the car although i have not checked
Bulldog Security 791
i never installed it the guy i bought it from had it already in the car
i have begun to start the car with the remote start first and then put the key in to run so i skip the security thing
so i have a couple of questions
1. do you think the remote start could be interfering at first and giving it the wrong value?
2. if not is there a way to wire a resistor bypass like other people have done without it interfering with the remote start?
or 3. can i somehow just bypass it with this box so i dont have to use the resistors?
thanks for the help it is appreciated

If the remote start works the first time you try it.. then no, I doubt there is an issue.
Try cleaning your key pellet with rubbing alcohol or use a spare key and see if there is a change.

I have been through two periods where I would get into the car, push the key in quickly, turn it out of habit quickly and find the VATS system locked out even though it was the first time the key had been turned, not the third. I cleaned pellet, I used alcohol on pellet inserting the key to clean contacts...
I tried just inserting the key and counting to 5. Sometimes I wait until the security light oes off. The car never misses starting.
I suspect it has something to do with contacts in the ignition switch itself--where the VATS power is engaged when the key is turned. After 130K miles, I wouldn't be surprised to have to replace the ignition switch. But after doing the slow and deliberate insert, wait, turn to start, it'* like the problem has gone away. Maybe the contacts have rubbed off the corrosion?
However your car should have had the VATS bypassed with a resistor already.

i did try a spare key i have not tried the rubbing alcohol as i dont have any right now and i need to get some
i figured it would have the vats already bypassed with a resistor but i was reading in the manual on it and it says it learns the resistor value by turning the key or something, thats what makes me think it isnt already
