Default Security Light!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you? My name is Rob, I just bought a 1996 Bonneville SE and the car started when it wanted to. Sometimes I would turn the key and it would start right up. Other times ( More than Enough ) I would turn the key and Nothing, just the stupid Security Light. I read your answers on the VATS Bypass, And have a Question. I tested the pellet ....4.75 and have a resistor that reads exactly that. When I put the resistor in and check the reading where I connected it it reads -5.96. And long story short nothing changes except now it won't start at all. Every time I turn the key the Security Light comes on!!! Is there any other way to fix this problem? I don't care if I have the theft feature or not. I bought this car to get to work ( Union Ironworker ) but since this all happened I have been laid off, I am broke, and really need to get this car running again. It ran perfectly fine before this Light Issue. PLEASE HELP! Thank You! Rob from Philly.

soldering iron and some resistors......same exact behavior.....its the orange wire under the dash that goes up there....put the resistor pack in and you are good to go.

The key itself does not break, its the wires inside the ignition assembly

read my post here on it:

Default Security Light

That is what I did Connected a resistor to the two white wires from inside the orange sleeve oppisite the steering column. And nothing changed execpt before it used to start up every once in a while, now every time I try to start the Security Light comes on and stays on for about 5mins.

If I recall correctly that resistor should be 4,750 Ohms. If you have a digital multimeter make sure to look for a K in front of the Ohm symbol. Do you have another key & do they both have the same resistance? When you cut or disconnected the wires did you install the resistor to the wire that goes up the steering column or up into the dash? Should be the connected to the wires going up into the dash.

Let'* try the other key or clean the key and switch contacts before we start a bypass. While the bypass is well-known here, the rate of necessity is far less than 1% of the cars here.

Default Quick Question???????????

With my multimeter set to read Ohm'* on 20k, the key pellet reads 4.75. Now when I check the reading on the white wires it only reads 4.39 is that the problem? When the key ( 4.75) is inserted into the cylinder it has more resistance than what the Vats (4.39) has?????

What exactly are you checking when it reads 4.39?
1 - The white wires going up the steering column without the key inserted.
2 - The white wires going up the steering column with the key inserted.
3 - The white wires going into the dash.

Don't worry about that reading.
Are those the wires that you connected the resistor to?
Do you have two keys?
