Well.. I was staring at my parts car and a thought popped into my head..

I have a spare OBD II connector ( in the parts car )..
and wondering if anyone has the wiring schmetics of OBD I and OBD II connectors.

I"m thinkin since 95 is a retarded year of OBD I connector on OBD II PCM.. maybe IF I can rewire and put the OBD II connector in place of the OBD I connector on Tamara'* 95. I would be able to read and scan it like a normal OBD II with my scan tool.

Any inputs? ( I think it was asked a while ago..but too lazy to search thru countless of threads and diggin up old threads )

You will only be able to do this if your scanner has both OBDI and OBDII capability (for example the Actron CP9145). To the best of my knowledge, you can't read OBDI cars with an OBDII-only scanner. The protocols are entirely different. The weird "OBD1.5" used in '94 and '95 Bonnevilles is really OBDI protocol, but uses OBDII codes and the 16-pin J1962 socket (with different wiring from the OBDII).

With that said, Bill Buttermore has posted the schematic for wiring the 16-pin OBD1.5 socket. But you still would have to know how to wire it to your scanner. That'* the rub.
The manufacturers don't seem to publish that kind of information :( . So far, Bill'* schematic wires only to the Actron OBDI CP9110 scanner (although there was some discussion once that it might work in the CP9145 scanner as well, I don't know).

If you have a dual capability scanner, chances are you will have to check with the manufacturer for a different cable.

(ps -- note that I have corrected my first paragraph to add the part about "OBD1.5")

If you are at all into electronics you can build a circuit and read the problems with a laptop.

A level converter that involves one chip and some soldering converts the cars output to straight serial data which can be read by a free-to-try software program known as EFILive v4.

(my own project on this direct connection is slowed due to remodeling of my work area, but I should be able to put something together soon for the "retarded OBDII" sysytem)

I found a male to female or vise versa for that obd1 connector it has the obd1 connector on one end that plugs in to the obd1 connector on car and the other end is the 16 pin obd2 that hooks up to a scanner
