Unhappy Oil pressure issues

Hey everyone. I'm having some issues with my oil pressure. First, the oil pressure gauge was pegged. Searched the forums and ended up changing the oil pressure switch during an oil change today. Now the gauge goes all over the place. It'* pretty erratic. Any ideas? Maybe the new switch is defective? I double-checked the connector at the switch and it'* on tight. Please help!

Oh, it'* a 2001 SE, non-SC.

Thanks!

Sounds like a bad connection. Check the plug for any corrosion.

Sounds like you might have a wire that bare and touching metal while running. Un-plug it, chase the wire and look for any shorts or grounds, clean the connection, add some dielectric grease to the connector and plug it back in.

Same as before. Oil press gauge looks almost as if searching. Still erratic. Plugs in firmly. Wires are well protected in jackets and loom (not shorted to ground). I don't think it could have anything do to with the oil change. I think the best bet would be to try changing it out again. What'* the census on that? I mean, before it was PEGGED at 120psi, and now it'* erratic. I really wish they made a manual more specific to our cars. It'* kinda hard to find a good schematic in a manual that goes back 20 years!

Unplug it and see what it does.

I have the GM manual just for a 2000 and it'* not that specific either, how eratic is the gauge? does it change with revving the engine or just at idle?

It bounces around mostly in the upper half of the range. It just randomly indicates different readings, never stopping at any indication for more then a second. Throttle/RPM don't seem to effect it in any way.

Strange, I guess you could swap the sensor just to eliminate that possibility, I can't think what else would cause this

I wuz hopin someone has had this prob before. Lol
Hopefully tomorow I can find the time to replace it again. Either way, I'll post the results. Any idea if I'm gonna get much oil out of that port or not? (the only time I've changed it was during an oil change, so there was no oil in her anyways) lol
