Default My 89 Bonneville apparently has a short in the #11 fuse.

This problem has been plaguing me off and on for like 4 years. The number 11 Fuse has the cigarette lighter, chime, power antenna, radio, and horn all on it and from time to time the fuse would pop, usually when going over train tracks or something similar. But starting two months ago, it is now constantly destroying every fuse I stick in, instantly. I just left the fuse out and instead of the radio, listened to my iPod in the car (yeah, I'm that guy). But now its up for inspection and I need the horn to pass.

So, I asked my friend to look at it (he is some kind of electrical engineer) and he is convinced its a short, and he is now attempting to isolate what is causing the short by disconnecting wires from the #11 Fuse. The only other thing I can think of is that about 2 years ago, the chime starting going of even when the doors were closed, and could never figure out what was going on with it, so I ended up just ripping out the chime box.

And so, I am just wondering if anyone out there has a clue as to what is going on? Does anyone have any advice for my friend as he tries to isolate? Does anyone know of any wire diagrams (he asked for them)?

I hope I posted this in the correct place, and I hope its not a duplicate or already asked question (I did search first).

Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well we disconnected the radio, the cigarette lighter and the chime was previously ripped out by me. Also I don't believe my model (LE) ever had power antenna. So does this definitely mean the culprit is my horn? But on the fuse listing it doesn't say that the horn is part of that fuse, although the horn does not work when the fuse is not in.

Thanks again for any help.

Try pulling the horn relay & see if the fuse still blows.

Heh, thank you for the response, but I have no idea how to do that.

Do you know a site that explains how to do this, or has diagrams or do you have the time to give me a quick overview (i.e. where its located)?

Hopelessly lost,

Levi

the horn relay is also in the fuse box. Just use the diagram on the back of the fuse box cover to locate which one it is.

Hmm, there is no diagram on the back of my fuse box. It only has a fuse list of sorts (what fuses do what). Can anyone please take a digital picture of theirs? Or does anyone know of a website or store that has one?

Thanks,

Levi

Horn relay should be under the dash on the passenger side. There should be "sockets" for ten relays but not all are used. Horn relay should be in the second socket from the top on right hand side.

OK, please bear with me. Sorry for the pics, they were taken with my broken camera phone.

I looked under the passenger dash and saw this http://bayimg.com/DAHjfAABP.

I further inspected and saw this, which I believe to be the fuse box you are talking about. http://bayimg.com/dAHjhaAbP

The problem is there does not seem to be any fuse in the location that this (http://bayimg.com/dahJgaAbp) says is the horn relay.

Any ideas?

So lost, thanks for all your help!

Ok, I could not figure out the relay so I just unplugged both horns under the hood. The problem persists.

Is there any place I can find/buy a wire diagram for my car? I have no idea what to do next.

Ok, I am really desperate here, but does anyone know another forum I could perhaps get more help from?

Thank you, Levi
