Twice now in the last week and a half when i first turn on the car, the DIC displays low oil level. Now both times when i have checked the oil level, it is not even close to being low, in fact it looks like there might be too much oil. I just bought the car a little more then two weeks ago and the dealer said they changed the oil right before i picked it up. Any suggestions as what to do? should i just ignore the light and keep checking the level or could it have to do with there being too much oil? Maybe a bad sensor? Any help would be appreciated.

99% chance its a bad oil level sensor

Not to be confused with the oil pressure sender.

if you physically observed the correct amount of oil on the dipstick and still have the low oil light then its the oil level sensor that is on the oil pan

The sensor is located on the front of the pan - Check to make sure that it is flly plugged in

On a related thought, what type and weight of oil and name of oil filter are you using?

Did you get any kind of used car warranty? I should think it is covered under warranty.

Ok..let'* step back a moment.

When you first turn it on??? When you turn on the key or when you start the car?
When you turn on the car...most lights will come on automatically for a moment during the self test of the light.

On the sensor..it'* about $40 and probably not the cause. They are very simple sensors and very reliable. Check the connection at the oil pan, oil leaks or things like that could cause a possible bad connection. Also to keep in mind is that the oil level sensor, MAF and Lean Bank One codes are common signs of corroded or bad battery cables.

In this case..first thing I'd check is the battery cables, remove each one at each end, clean...apply a light amount of dielectric grease and reconnect. As well...when the cables are off the battery, look under the rubber end booties for corrosion as well.

first thing, i don't know what brand oil or filter they used, but i do know it'* 10w-30. on my civic when i change the oil i use mobil one synthetic 5w-30 and mobil one oil filter. what is the best choice for the bonnevilles?

second, the warranty only covers powertrain but not he sensors. thats the first thing i looked into the other night.

lastly, the battery terminals are good, i just check them the other day when i wired up my amp. in fact, it looks like the battery is fairly new. the DIC has only displayed oil level low twice and both times it happens within the first minute of me turning the car on. that leads me to believe it'* maybe a loose connection or something.
