My Lamp Monitor (Rear Lamp) keeps turning off and on, I checked the lights they seem okay to me. Any suggestions?

did you check all the lights? such as the license plate bulbs and back up bulbs?

Did you clean the contacts? When you are checking all the lights, just pull the bulbs out, and clean them with a solution of cleaner and water. I use 50/50 mix of simple green/water.

Plate lights are the common overlooked device if it says 'taillight out'. Which light is it that'* getting you?

I am having much the same problems with Lamp Monitor. I get a warning about rear tail lamps and also center mount brake lamp. The warnings seem to be almost random and sometimes lamp monitor is lit up with no indication of which bulbs are out. I went and purchased new bulbs for every bulb in the rear, replaced them all, cleaned all the contacts and still have the same problem showing up. Beginning to think that maybe have bad ground circuit or connections to monitor module itself. Now going to Alldata to get the service info and see whats up. I will post a message when I find out what the problem is.

There are several types that will work on the center brake light, and all will trip it except for the right number. The correct lamps are listed in Techinfo.

All these rear lights are susceptible to corrosion and moisture. If you have either problem, you'll have a problem. Using a dielectric grease on all of them may help after you get them cleaned up.

As already stated, license plate lights are commonly overlooked, and are in the most abusive location.

Mine are always brake and tail mainly. But most of the time the monitor goes haywire and tells me everything is out and then they come and go. Getting annoying. Now when I swapped batteries yesterday.....The lamp monitor worked correctly for about 2 hours amd went nutz from there?


P.*. The Battery I got is an Optima Red Top. Found it for sale at my work for 20 DOLLARS!!!! Perfect condition not even a scratch!

Lakeville, 90% of the lamp monitor problems are solved by making sure you have no moisture in the assemblies, thoroughly cleaning the sockets with contact cleaner and an acid brush, installing new bulbs (or cleaning current ones) and using dielectric grease between the socket and bulb base.

You really just need to set aside some time to do it right. Remove the assemblies, and do it on the bench. All 4 taillight pieces can be removed in 15 minutes with a minimum of tools.

Welp, being Thanksgiving and all.....I got ALLL day... LOL...I'll do that in a lil bit. Any specific type of electrical cleaner you recomend?

Any general contact cleaner. Rubbing alcohol if you don't have any, but then you should use a wire toothbrush if possible. Just make sure whatever cleaner you use won't damage the plastic. Test a small area and let it sit for awhile first.

If you find any moisture in the assemblies, FIX the leak. It could be where the reflector and lens are attached, or even where the lamp plugs into the back of the reflector. A very thin coat of caulking (pure silicone sealant) will work on this.
