Bizarre timing, I know. When I turn the key the driver info panel lights up, antenna motor whirs, but the engine does not start. Previously, the security light has been staying on and the antenna would not lower. The towing driver thinks it'* a security problem and he has seen similar situations before. The battery is good. He left the key turned on and after 15 minutes SSEi would not reset and start. Now my car has been towed to my usual auto repair shop. Any ideas? If your VATs is not working, it can be bypassed, read this. https://www.gmforum.com/electrical-133/bypass-vats-92-99-a-279119/ Also check both ends of both battery cables, Clean them good.

The starter was a problem. In order to repair it I had the security system overridden. Now the engine starts but I cannot use the security system which was totally replaced approximately 2 years ago.

Still the antenna will not retract. A plastic piece which coils the antenna as it retracts is broken and will have to be replaced with an entire new antenna package since GM only sells it that way-$475! So...the antenna motor continues to work but my antenna has to be pushed in by hand if I want it to retract! Anyone know how I can get the replacement for the "plastic piece" which broke? --justnw

Go to a salvage yard and get a new antenna. I seem to remember hearing that autozone has a repair kit for them as well, but I never checked that out.

Let'* concentrate on one thing first. Starting.

Does the motor crank over but not catch and start?
Does the motor not crank over?

If the engine cranks, fires and dies after 2-5 seconds, that is VATS. If you have any other symptoms, it'* not vats.
