sometimes it pays to procrastinate. For a few days I was taking the fuses in and out depending on if I was driving at night or during the day. then suddenly the lights started working like they should. go figure. thanks for all the help.

Did you pull the switch out and look at the connector on the back?

no, all I did was pull the fuses in and out. There was a lot of snow packed up behind the grill during that time, maybe something got we and then dried out, I don't know.

yeah, maybe so, I know electrical problems can be intermittent. So by recalled switch you mean I could take it to the dealer and get a new one free?

Yes, this is a dealer replaced item according to NHTSA. The campaign number is: 94V190000
But all you really have to do is give them your VIN # and they can tell you if your vehicle qualifies for the replacement. As in, if you have the affected switch or not.
