merlin: another thing that could be happening is that they are getting hot and then water hits them. The rapid change in temp can crack the glass. My fogs said that if they are on while driving wait atleast 10 minutes before washing them for that reason.

With how many people have had problems with the SilverStars, I wouldnt recommend getting them. I have had them in my high beams since they were available, and ran low beams for a year without a single problem.
