2003 Radio/Clock Display Faded on Half of Display
Greetings,
My radio/clock display is faded on one half of the display. I can still see the time/station, but that'* only because the lit side brightens up the dim side.
Any ideas what the problem is? Bulb? Fuse? How might I fix this, or will this require the entire dash to be removed?
Thanks!

theres a writeup on how to fix all that, you just need to get your radio out by pulling the trim up from under the climate control and then you can get to the radio, just 4 clips
i've been looking, there are ones about the buttons but not behind the display, I saw someone fix this before but I can't find it

I just got done fixing mine, and it worked perfectly. The guide on how to take the radio apart is here: http://www.corvetteradios.com/home/3bulbInstall.jpg. Now the only thing is that the bulbs for the backlighting are very hard to find. Corvette radios sells them, but they are OUTRAGEOUS! Something like 23 bucks or so for three.... I decided to try out the same bulbs that are in the dash, and with a little fine tuning, the worked great. I paid $0.41 each, and they are working great. Bought them at http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/25-940 which are the same as the bulbs in the gauge cluster if they burn out. I have been using them for the last 10 days, and the radio looks great. I know its not to OEM specs, but i think that it works pretty great for what I need it for, and looks the exact same if not better. If you do need OEM however, you can get the replacements on the corvette radios website for 23 bucks. If you have any questions, or need any help, feel free to send me a PM, and I will help you out.

I did this years ago in my '95 Lumina... all the bulbs went out in the radio, plus in the Thermostat/Climate area.
Dealers solution...replace radio, replace Climate control unit, no user serviceable parts.... Poor answer & even yet poor design, to this day GM DOES NOT use LED'* in these 'non servicable' applications.
I never got to the climate control due to aging issues in the dash plastic, however I did replace 2 of the 3 in the radio... soo after the 3rd bulb went... should had done em all when I had this apart..... but IMO these bulbs should last for decades, & they sometimes do.
I'm not sure but I believe I just used lower wattage 12v grain of wheat bulbs I had picked up at Radio Shack, or I modified a #37 bulb ... these had to be hand soldered, plus you can't use too high wattage as these are close to the lexan/plastic overlay, & may deform, this. I tested for a few hours before re installing, no heat problems.
The bulbs in my Camaro'* radio are now getting fickle, a little rap on the dash sometimes helps too! (but this is temporary)... no wonder people go over to aftermarkek radios, at one time Delco made a bulletproof radio, now it seems inferior at 4 to 5x the price of aftermarket.
