Default Convert dash lighter socket from always on to ignition on?

I just started having a problem with my dash lighter socket. I keep an iPod FM transmitter dock always plugged into that socket, and up until I got an iPhone, I always kept my iPod in it. The past couple mornings my battery has been dead. I took the car to my mechanic and when I left the car I unplugged the dock. They left it overnight and it started just fine. Battery and alternator (both 1.5 years old) are working perfectly. I feel as if its the dock that'* causing the problem. So I was thinking it would be great if I could change the socket from always on to only turning on with the ignition. Has anyone attempted and performed such a task? My mechanic has said it can't be done, but I don't believe him.

Also, new to the forum. Good to be here!

If you have a 2000+ it'* an easy quick thing with moving a fuse position or relay.

You could rewire it to the same circuit as the radio.

Of course the easy solution is to un-plug the dock. The easiest power supply to tap into would be the radio, or you can build a ignition only power bus and wire it to your fuse panel on one of the ignition on circuits there.
