Check the fluid level in the master cylinder. It'* likely low. Top it off with DOT3 fluid.

Then, inspect the entire braking system to determine where/why the fluid level decreased.

And if thats not the problem , Sometime the Emergency Brake pedal is a bit sloppy and can hang a tad to low and trip the brake light on. Lift up on it with your foot and see if it goes out.

Holy crap thats too funny you posted this...exact thing on my 95' SSEi. I've been banging on the rear lights thinking it was a short or something :P I'm going to check the brake fluid...thanx fellas.

Don't underestimate this. Most of the time it'* an early indication of Master Cylinder failure. Be VERY careful and don't ignore this.

Are you guys talking about the light indicating that light bulbs are burnt out in the rear of the car? If so check the license plate bulbs also.

Good question Ted. Are we talking about the LAMP MONITOR on the DIC (driver information center), or a Dummy Light that says BRAKE?
