Default can i just disable the lamp monitor????

on my 93 ssei, it keeps saying the lights are burnt out when they arn't. i know this is common, and i should clean the bulbs and put die-electric in. but its ALL the lights.

"tail light" is on 95% of the time
"brake light" is on 85% of the time
head lamp comes on sometims for 1/2 half second
parking lamp comes on somtimes for 1/2 second
3rd brake light comes on for 1/2 second

maybe another one too

as you can imagine, its annoying as heck, and i just want to turn it off....on a 93 ssei

I've heard this could be a problem beginning in the PCM, but am unsure.

Lakeville had this type of a problem and I believe it'* fixed. I'll see if we can get have him post his fixes.

I'm wondering if you've got a ground problem back there somewhere. If so, current going out on one circuit can double back through any others sharing the same physical ground connection, if it'* dirty or loose, leading to all kinds of false alarms as the Adaptive Lamp Monitor unit sees decreases in current flow on one circuit, then another, etc. In other words, I think you may just be shooting the messenger here.

First, have you verified that every outside light is actually working right? Especially check tail/brake light bulbs: turn on the parking lights, then have an assistant sit behind the wheel and step on the brake while you watch the taillights. If any brake lamps go out when they're supposed to get brighter, check the offending socket, since either its bulb or its ground connection is bad.

As others have said, flaky license-plate lights or side markers can give false alarms, too. (I had several bogus warnings from my high-mount brake lamp before I finally cleaned the side ground contact of its socket.)
