My brake lights...

http://www.mos95b.com/bitpim/wallpaper/0911051415.jpg

Only took a couple of hours, half a pint of blood, 3 band-aids, 1/4 tube burn ointment (molten plastic is hot boys and girls), 12 swear words, and 3 beers....

Thanks to RandMan for the parts, and BillBoost for shipping them.

J Wikoff 09-11-2005 03:49 PM

How'd ya do it?

1993 SLE 09-11-2005 03:51 PM

you finally got it done.....its what been about a year and a half

looks great....more details

MOS95B 09-11-2005 04:04 PM

All I did was dremel out the running light holes to accept the larger brake light sockets. Spliced the current running light circuit into the new sockets. Then ran a wire to tap the brake lights into the brake light circuit.

The catch was, the brake light sockets have to be trimmed a bit. They're about a 1/2 inch too long to fit between the light assembly and the trunk. Luckily, there's plenty of extra socket there to trim off.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any during pics. Camera phone ran out of memory, and I didn't feel like tracking down the real camera...

BillBoost37 09-11-2005 06:44 PM

We send you stuff and you don't even give us pics???

How can I tell itf it's a clean install?

Good work John..looks good

rjolly87 09-11-2005 07:14 PM

looks good john. next up is to light up the pontiac between the lights like they do on the sun fires.

corvettecrazy 09-11-2005 07:28 PM

seems AWSOME...may just have to do that with LED bulbs

MOS95B 09-11-2005 08:24 PM

Nope. No LEDs.

And the PONTIAC may be next summer...

I said "No!"

Yeah, I kinda misread that one, huh?? I was wondering why you thought I had LED's in there...

Shouldn't need an extra. Kinda hard to mess it up. The holes for the running light sockets have an indent around them the same size as a brake light socket. The hardest part is making notches for the little tabs....

BillBoost37 09-12-2005 09:44 AM

John....no lamp monitor from the running lights missing?

I was thinking of going all out and making a full LED set up in that little space. would be super bright

I'm the kind of person who wont drill into anything origional incase I need to go back...although that didn't work well my my air box

SE. No lamp monitor to worry about. Besides, there's bulbs there, just not the originals. That's why I wanted brake light sockets for the project. Still have running lights, just added brake lights.

As soon as I get a helper, I'll try getting a vid of the new setup

COWARD!!!

No guts, no glory!!!

I had the JB Weld ready, just in case....

BillBoost37 09-12-2005 12:32 PM

Sooo you hooked the parking up the regular circuit and added the stop lamps. Nice.. You need an SSE/SSEi so you understand the pains of lamp monitoring.

It's not a simple pulling of a bulb like that John, it's the whole DIC which as we know..can be a _ _ _ _

MartyC 09-12-2005 01:02 PM

I installed a similar setup in the wifes old 944. The difference was that the 944 housings were made for additional bulbs (euro setup). No drilling required - just plug/splice and play.

MOS95B 09-12-2005 08:36 PM

And now the video (ignore the sound)

Opens with Quicktime

yeah they look delayed. but still sweet.

sse1990 09-13-2005 08:48 AM

Looks cool. I should try something like that on my Malibu, the trunk lights on it are not lights only reflectors.

As for the delay, I have noticed that on a few cars ( I see alot of cars during the day with all the driving I do), and on those cars it is stock lighting. Have to stay amused some how while driving so I noticed that one day.

MOS95B 09-13-2005 09:16 AM

I'm not sure on the delay thing. It looks like it in the movie. I'll have to get my helper (aka The Missus) and see if it's both sides, or if it's just the vid...
