Default Antenna Motor

Sirs,
I have a 1988 Bonne and the antenna motor, when i connect it to the power, runs continuously and the antenna doesn't move. Any ideas as to what that problem is?
Thanks,
-A

I'm not a gearhead..... but I've had to replace several antennas in my 91.
I think stripped gears inside the motor, probably due to a bent antenna.... but again I'm no gearhead.

I'd say just replace it.... a new one is like $70 bucks. (at least that'* what I paid)
Or get one from a junkyard..... it'* an easy fix/install.

The nylon cord that raises and lowers the antenna is broken. You need a replacement antenna. A new mast won't do it for you. I'm not sure what other cars are compatible with yours. My understanding is the 92-99 Bville antenna is different.

You may want to try a wrecker.

The nylon cord runs inside the mast. The motor drives a spool that winds up the cable. When it reaches the limit of movment, it engages a switch to turn off the motor (and reverse the
direction for the next power on event). When the cable breaks, the switch never engages and the motor doesn't shut off. Sometimes something just sticks, but mostly the cable breaks.

It'* easiest to just replace it, but they are repairable if you're handy. I was able to do a cable transplant on one of my cars. I think the donor unit was from JC Whitney.
