Just finishing up fixing things on my '93 SSE and the last is an ABS problem. Had the shop diagnose that the problem and came down to the ABS computer. I found one on ebay but didn't see the note that it wasn't for traction control vehicles (oops, my bad!). My question is will it still work even though my SSE has traction control?? The seller said he would exchange it for the right computer if not, so does anyone have an idea of what years and vehicles would work. Also, is there any danger in pulling the old ABS computer until I get a replacement??? Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard ro read about anyone trying to substitute one for the other. Personally, it they are willing to exchange it for the proper one...that is the route I'd suggest you take.

the abs isnt gonna work witht he puter in there i dont see a reson anything would go wrong if ya take it out.. i would pull the fuse though.... but i though the traction control was seprate from the ABS unit.... the gear head will peak in about first break time... lol good luck...

I have a '94 ABS computer off of my '94 SSEi. I'm sure it'* the same.

so does that mean a car the trac control computer is in with the abs or is it two seprate units??

ABS and Traction Control are built into the same module.

EBTCM

Electronic brake/traction control module.

You need one for a 92/93 ONLY (they changed design for 94/95), even though GMPD shows compatibility up to 1999 (this is INCORRECT on their catalog).

You need part number 25615670 with traction control, part number 25557529 without traction control.

BTW, it is VERY uncommon for this module to go bad. In 4 years here, I've only seen one confirmed EBTCM module failure. Not saying yours isn't bad, just be prepared to return it to the wrecker if it doesn't fix your problem. Most wreckers have a 30-day return period.

Thanks for the replies... I'll be contacting the guy I bought the unit from to return this one and get the right one - with the correct p/n thanks to will. Also will, I found it hard to believe the computer was bad. The stored codes indicated a bad pump unit, however the technician was able to test the pump unit seperately. It performed as expected, leaving the computer (so I won't be surprised when I have to get a pump unit ). I appreciate all the replies.

He may have tested the PUMP in the PMV (pressure modulator valve) unit, but it'* very hard to test the gate valves, which is the typical failure in aged units.

Did a dealer test this for you, or a third-party mechanic?

Third party mechanic, although they've been right on with previous diagnoses. Should I be looking for a pump unit??
