Default 99 SSEi radio display

I have a 99 SSEi and I have gone thru 3 different radios and none of them had a display that worked. I just got a radio yesterday from Chris that worked in his '98 I put in my car and the radio is fine and no display.

I have 3 radios and no working displays .......so I then thought maybe wiring?? I am lost for words on this and I refuse to funk up my car with some ugly aftermarket radio or worse a gawdy clock stuck to the dash!! PLEASE HELP!!

Wow, 3 radios!?? I'm confused really. Only thing I can think of is, the bulbs are blowing out.

Can you open one of them up and confirm the bulb is ok? Only thing you have to do is, remove the *****, equalizer sliders if you have them, and unlock the faceplate locks. Then the faceplate just pops off.
Kinda like this...

alright........this is the weirdest thing....all 3 had bad bulbs. The one comfirmed it worked the morning I got it. How odd. Now the weirder part is I tried Advanced Auto, Autozone, Pontiac Dealer and Radio Shack and no one has the bulb replacement. Looks like I'm headed to the JY to find another radio with the bulb. They only charge $1 per bulb.~~Thanks for the diagram Mike.

Yea those bulbs are hard to find. I know someone around here found a source, but they cost around $15 each.

Had the same issue myself with the burned out bulb. I took a standard issue small 12v bulb and soldered a couple wires and was good to go.

I was at the right place today at the right time. The JY was crusing cars and I scarfed 4 pontiac radios and he gave me the bulbs out of them. Now I have 3 WORKING radios with displays!!
