Our 97 SLE loaded with options. Keyless and VATs. When we start the car the security light stays on for like 10-15 minutes then goes off. It never flashes when driving and always starts right up. It doesn't seem to hurt anything but I hate to have lights on in the dash
Also as I side note...if you open the trunk wih the key it sets off the alarm. I don't have the keyless remote like my wife so I always forget and set off the alarm...is that normal? I don't remember my other Bonneville'* doing this.

almost sounds like you are having issues with the factory security system, and the issue may be with the trunk switch..
The guys should have some thoughts for you soon as this seems to be a common issue

Hey guys, any thoughts on this problem? I will try to find the wire in the trunk and pull it off tonight to see if it makes a difference. Is this wire in the lid or in the trunk by the latch?
The wire is in the trunk lid between the outer skin and inner frame. You'll have to pull back the carpet liner under the trunk lid (if equipped) to see it. You'll find a cable (mechanical cable) coming from the lock cylinder. Follow it back to a single-wire connector and pull it apart.
Let us know if that solves the problem, and we'll explain why.

I unplugged the wire in the truck as you all say and that has fixed the security light staying on! Thanks so much. I have fixed several little issues we have had with "Bonnie" since I joined the board.
I'm getting my money'* worth for sure! LOL (oh wait...it'* free) !!

I guess the explination would be that the sensor in the trunk on the key latch for the Security is not working correctly and causing the security light to stay on. All I know is when I disconnected it now the light goes off like it should.
There'* a small metal tab on the trunk lock cyilnder (thing you put your key in). If the cylinder is tampered with, or a slide hammer is used to pull it out, the tab breaks and releases the cable, setting the light by applying a ground.
Over time, the tab gets weak from the trunk slamming shut repeatedly, and breaks. We just disconnect at that point and bypass that part of the protection.

Well my wife informed me this morning that the light is staying on again for about 10-15 min so I guess this didn't fix it after all. It seemed to go off correctly for a few days but you know..it has always done that since we owned it so we have gotten to where we don't pay attention to it. It would sometimes go off right away anyway. It is a FREAK!
