Default 2 Batteries?

Why does a 2002 Bonneville have 2 car batteries (both connected); one under the hood and a second under the rear seat cushion next to one of the fuse boxes?

I'd like to see the pictures, too. I'd be interested in what they moved around under the hood to find room for the battery.
