Default 1997 SSEi cranks but will not fire

I am new to the forum, hopefully someone can help with an issue I am having with my 1997 SSEi.

I went out today to start the car this morning and it cranks like mad, but does not appear to be firing. I had this happen once before, had it towed to the old Pontiac dealer. Naturally, when it got there, it started right up. They said it was out of gas and blamed on the baffles in the fuel tank. I have been keeping it full and yet again I am having the sane issue.

I plugged in my scan tool, but since there is no check engine light, there are no codes to read.

One other point of intrest. Recently, on occasion, it will die while I am driving but generally, I can throw it into Neutral and it starts right back. This problem is moderately intermittent, maybe once or twice a day.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked the fuel pressure??
Have you checked to make sure that the fuel pump is working??
Have your had the Ignition Module Checked???

I need more information to get you to a more specific area to check.

I would consider the fuel pump, If it is working , I would check the pressure, it should be around 45-60 PSI, Depending on pump, If that all checks out. Have the ignition module checked make sure that it is still working. If it is doing its job. Check the coil packs with a voltometer. The ohms of resistance should be 5-6.5. If that all checks out. Change the Spark plugs and wires. If you are still experiancing the same issue... Change the Crankshaft position sensor. that is what i would do in that situation.

Check for spark, my guess is you have none. Could be a bad crank sensor. But first check all the plugs on the crank sensor, cam sensor, and ignition control module.

With Dan on this one. Stalling while driving is commonly a crank sensor. Further failure could keep you from starting.
