Default Window Tint...

So I've been playing around with the idea of tinting the windows on my LeSabre.

I like the way tint looks on cars like this, plus it would help a bit during the hot summer season...

My problem is I have absolutely no experience in this area. I see percentages being thrown around and up until recently I had no idea what that meant. I do now, but I still don't know exactly what those numbers will translate to as far as how it will look and affect visibility...

If I'm going to do this, I think it would be best to get all the windows tinted, windshield and all, with the same percentage. Limo tint on the rear windows might look nice initally but I think I'd get tired of it after a while. I also don't want to have visibility problems at night, but I do want it to be dark enough to be noticeable and help keep the heat out.

I've been looking around and people seem to think that either black or mirror tints would look best with a silver car...what do you think would be best for mine? I've been thinking about mirror tint, because in this picture the windows kind of look mirrored and I think it looks nice:

Naturally if you could help me out with an appropriate percentage that would be great too...it would also be helpful if anyone could give me an idea of what this will look like on my car.

Also...

I've never done this before so I'm not even sure if I should bother to attempt it personally. About how much would a shop charge to install it, materials and labor? Finding a shop that will do it is also an issue, but it'* one I'll have to deal with on my own.

ok basics

dont tint the front windshield...not a good idea

go with all 1 percentage. dont mix the front with the back.....for example 5% in the back and 30% in the front ( it doesnt look good)

i would say that you need to check with your local laws first but 35% seems to be a good tint to keep the sun out of the car

there are good and bad tints out there, go to a place that offers a lifetime warrenty. also see if you can look at some of their work

The names of the Tints i cant remember but BillBoost had tint done and he knows the names of the good films

First off dont attempt to tint your windows yourself, I paid $300 to have mine done and it came with a lifetime warrenty and though spendy its well worth it.

I have a 30% on mine all the way around and it looks like

Well, my experience on the whole tint thing. On my 95 I have limo tint its a black car so it looks, to me anyways, freaking amazing also I like just staring at people at red lights and they cant see me haha. I just got a Greystone GXP and will also get limo tint on that also. I agree you dont want tint on your front window first of all any tint on the front window is illegal (except the visor stripe at the top) I havent had any problems with limo tint and police and I have had it for about 4 years now. My brother on the other hand has been pulled over once gave him a warning and told him to get rid of it(never did). Its all what you think looks good. I love my limo tint and never have gotten sick of it. The mirror thing i believe is illegal also not sure though maybe someone can chime in on that.

I'd agree, don't do it yourself. Call a few different tint shops and get quotes. Most of them are offering dealer prices right now, trying to sucker people in and spend their tax returns. I got mine for $225, 20% back/rear, 35% front. And, of course as everyone has mentioned, you can't beat a lifetime warranty. I've seen way too many DIY jobs bubble like crazy.

Like said above, do some research on tints and your state laws. As far as brands go, I know that Llumar is a great brand and Boosty had another good brand pput on his, but I cannot recall which at the moment. I know that 3M has a good one out now.

Whatever tint you use, make sure that it is one of the new ones that guarantee it will never fade or discolor. There are too many good ones out there to settle for less.

As far as tint laws for your state, I went and found this site for you. It'* what many of us have used and will tell you specifically what is legal or not for your state.

Thank you all for the information! I had no idea it would be so expensive, I called around and every shop told me pretty much what you guys did as far as price goes. I think I'll hold off for a while.
