VHT nightshades will fade over time if you don't clear it. Trust me. I've tinted multiple sets over the last few years.

I can't imagine anyone NOT wanting to clear them. VHT NS needs to be protected from scratching and chipping. Clear is the only solution, and makes them look closer to OEM than anything else you could do.

They didn't fade. The acrylic clear I applied over 4 years ago began to oxidize. It wasn't a gloss to begin with, but a semi-gloss/matte finish.
