Default Third Brake Light Mod

Some people are fans of the third brake light and others aren't. I figure if you have one, might as well make it work for you!

This mod uses the Signal Dynamics Back Off Brake Module XP Brake Light Signal Module. The module can be wired several different ways. I elected to use the four short-one long flash option.

Here'* the module:

Access the third brake light by pulling the trunk lid liner off:

Disconnect the socket:

Verify the 'Hot' wire from the brake switch. White wire is hot:

Clean the module off with alcohol wipes. This will make the adhesive tape that comes with the module to adhere better. Notice that the wires that will not be used for this mod have been trimmed and shrink heat tubing has been used to protect the wire ends:

Find a area where the module can be tucked away and clean the surface with alcohol and dry:

Double back tape adhered to the module and read to put into place under the trunk lid:

The module is stuck to the trunk lid. The brake lights hot wire has been cut and the wires to the module have been wires in and are ready to solder. Heat shrink tubing is in place and is ready to protect the soldered end:

Wires are soldered and the ground wire for the module, black; has been scotch locked to the brake switched ground wire. Heat shrink tubing has been slid over the solder joints and is ready to be shrunk:

After testing, wires are snugged up into the loom and everything is tucked neatly away. The trunk lid liner can now be re-installed:

That looks really nice. The only thing I can say is loose the clamp on wire connector and solder that wire. Those tend to be a real problem.

Hey Dan - I will pull the scotch lock at a later date. I ran out of finger feeling and my arthritic hands are killing me today. I need the car for a 4am drive in the morning and needed to button it up.
