I remember reading on clubgp that memebers were adding washers under the spoiler to prevent water leakage. Could you actually raise the spoiler off the trunk? Has anyone done this? Would this cause any problems?

I personally don't recall anyone doing that.

yes guys did this to make the water flow a little better. You have a seal on the front of the spoiler with 3m double sided tape, as well as the bolts. The seal is to prevent the water from coming from the trunk and getting in. Personally i wouldnt worry about it
