Is this common or an isolated incident?
Car is a 95 w/SLE package, white in color.
The previous owner said the top was already repainted due to flaking paint, and now the hood and trunk are also peeling/flaking...
Was there ever a recall on this or anything?

the peeling on the hood...is it peeling from the metal or the paint layer below...if it'* peeling off the paint below it is most likely due to the fact that the last painter didnt sand the suface well enough and now that the paint has cured more (this can take a very long time) the paint will want to shrink. If it has bad adheation it will peel like your descibing. If it'* peeling off the metal then to might want to check carfully to see if your getting rust because that will also force the paint to let go and peel.
