My Afternoon Project - Matching Engine Cover!

Well I had some free time today and decided I wanted to do something to my car to make it a bit more unique.

I started thinking of some things I could do and decided to go ahead and paint the engine cover to match the car.

First I took the cover off and preped it for sanding:

Next I sanded it down in steps starting with 220 grit then 400 grit then shooting it with primer: (Note the red color you see is a 2nd primer that serves as a guide when wet sanding the primer down to be smooth before painting)

Next I sanded it all down and preped it for paint:

First coat was "Super Red" I beleive was the color I mixed.. a GM Color. I decided to put some red on it being my Calipers are also red, and then I taped off the areas I wanted to keep red in preperation for the next coat:

The second coat I mixed up is the same color as my car:

Then I removed the tape and got it ready to apply the final coat:

The Final Coat was the clear coat:

And here it is on the car: (will get some pictures outdoors in a little bit, just wanted to make sure the Clear has begun to harden before I run the car)

Let me know what you think! I might paint the Lettering Black to make it "pop" a little more. And sorry, for not having any on the car before pictures.. I forgot :(

Update:

Here are some pictures I got this evening of it on the car, I think it turned out really good, and it's hard to tell from the pictures but it matches perfect!

First a Before picture of how it looks under the hood (Not my car, but you get the idea)

Probably one of the best stock engine bay mods I've seen. Nicely done!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

I luckily have all the neccassary things due to my line of work to do all this so that is the first step haha, without everything it wouldn't be so easy. Still took an afternoon to do it, but it was worth it!

Since this is an item that is not needed to drive your car, If anyone is interested in having their's done shoot me a PM and I would definately work something out for you to ship it to me and I will paint it to match your car/or any color of your choosing and give you a good deal ;)
