I was sooooooo tempted to do mine the same even bought the VHT Nightshades, the sandpaper and the clear coat, but once i got it in did some more research and hate to get pulled over for simple stuff. But i live in good ol california there ***** out here especially in my neighborhood. Bought a set of SSEI taillights $170. Legal and they look damn good

From what I've learned talking to people that are into cars that live there, it varies wildly depending on the area.

It only takes one **** with a bad attitude to issue a ticket. Is that a risk anyone wants to take? Police depts are losing more and more funding every year. Some will do just about anything to increase quota. IMO anyway.

@MouSe in Southeast San Diego. I've seen tinted tails here and there, even more so since I considered tinting mine. Just hated the idea of getting a fix-it ticket and end up spending the money on fresh taillights

Aside from fear of getting a ticket, one should also think about the main reason why tails should not be tinted. During the right lighting conditions, it'* virtualy IMPOSSIBLE to tell if the brake lights come on. DOT has mandated that lights need to be SEEN within a certain luminance.
If I was a insurance company, and one of my clients vehicles was rearended that had tinted tails, your screwed. I wouldn't pay to get your car fixed.
