Default how dark is to dark?

im looking to getting tint really soon but im not sure how dark to go. i have a friend with 5% in the tauraus and it was to dark to reverse when it was dark out side. but i dont want it as light as my buick, which was 25% so im thinking 15% is a good enought, what do u guys with tint think?

5% for the back is always my choice. limo black. unfortunately, in michigan we have this dumbass law that says you cant have ANY tint in your fron windows, except the top four inches. i know this for a fact after getting a ticket for my wifes sunfire, and having to strip the tint. sucked. i think if you went with a few shades lighter in the front, maybe the 25%, it woudnt be as noticable.

Tint quality and brands make a big difference. For example..I have Onyx tint and at 35% it'* very tranparent...while being effective for blocking the cook factor of the sun

I think it depends locally in Michigan for how much trouble you will get for the front. A friend with 25% all around has no trouble in Midland, but one in the Detroit area gets it from the state cops sometimes (Detroit police have better things to do). Depends on how flashy your vehicle is too. Also had a friend with 15% all around and 35% on the front window (and I mean the front, not the front sides), think he only had limited trouble but he got a prescription for it too

I think that factory is 25% if I am not mistaken and on all my trucks and SUV'* I get the fronts to match the back and sides, I never have a problem, AND I agree that mixing shades looks bad....... I would go 25 or 20 all the way around. just my .02...... I have had a 7 vehicles in my life and all of them have had factory shade tint all the way around (not windshield) and I have never had a problem in my 8 years of driving.....

Thats 20% all the way around, from a distance, and at most angles, especially on sunny days, it looks completey solid black and you cant see through at all.

But then at times you can see through pretty good(im talking from the outside).

If I could do it over again I would probably go with 15%, just to have it a little darker.

As for driving, ive never had much of a visibility problem, other than occasionally backing up in an area with no other lights except my reverse lights, of course that can be challenging even with no tint at all.

Quality of tint makes a big difference, your tint should be good and black, and not have a purplish hue to it.
