I know there are other threads on this, but I need some advice...

Here'* the deal... I had my hood refinished this past October due to the bubbling that is all too common. Parked the car mid November for the winter. I just got it out and all cleaned up and noticed that there are new bubbles on the outside of the hood. So I took it back to the dealership that did the work and they are now giving me the run around on it. I demanded a new hood be painted and installed. Now they're telling me that they need the car for a week to strip it down and check to see if it was improper application/refinishing the first time they did it or if it was more material corrosion in an area they didn't touch. The outcome of which will determine if I'll get a new hood or not.

I'm livid. The first time around they had my car for over 1 week (dropped it off on a Monday and they didn't have it ready until the following Wednesday). I was just glad to have the hood herpies gone. Looked at the quality of work on my hood the next time I detailed it and was pissed. You could see sanding marks and edges between layers on the areas they refinished (not the whole front edge of the hood). I can't stand bringing it back to them, but they are the only Pontiac dealership within an hour of my house that has a body shop.

I remember someone stating that they had to contact customer service to get some assistance with their issue. Does anyone think that would help in my case?

Reminds me of mine. Part of the deal when I bought the car is they would repaint the hood because it was bubbling underneath at the hem. When I got it, I could tell they only did the small area that was affected. Then when I called the body shop to inquire about it, I found out they didn't do it. The used car department has some guy come in and do spot repaints. Knock on wood, no problem yet. I seem to remember reading somewhere that to really do it properly the entire hood should be stripped down and repainted, not just part of it.

I would like to know how they intend to determine if they improperly prepped it by stripping it down? Kind of sounds like a baker saying they are going to take all the ingredients out of a cake to figure out why it didn't turn out right

Well, I was mistaken on one part. The hood was repainted last January, but it has seen maybe a weeks worth of snow driving since then and has been garage kept all that time.

It just makes me mad that I have to deal with this inconvenience after already dealing with it once.

They said I could use one of their loaner cars, but my Bravada has more creature comforts than any of the crappy cars they have.

Do the hood herpes spread or does it just show up and not go away? I seem to remember the list of common issues with the 00+ mentioning the seam or hem had to be unfolded and then stripped at repainted.

Last time I saw it there was a bubble dead center... Grrr.

wrong. just that affected area needs to be striped (think of it like rust, just not )

to put a stop to it i think you would have to peel back the seam, grind away all the corrotion and hammer it back down with some seal sealer or 3M panel bond in it, Its alot of work and i would say its almost as cost affective for them to just buy you a new hood all together

also, you dont have to take it to just a Pontiac dealer, any GM dealer would do

and now that bubble is bigger and there are a couple more spots coming up, the entire underside of teh front edge is blistered like a M-F

What about the folks selling fiberglass hoods. Has anyone bought one?
