The DTS plastic headlights are getting yellow across the top. Somebody on here recognized it in some pics i posted. Now I see it everyday and it bothers me (thanks) <-- Sarcasm,
Can I get away with the $7.00 bottle of plastic polish, or do I need the $23.00 kit? Has anyone tried the $7.00 bottle of polish with any success?

for my lights, i used 1000 grit sandpaper, then 1500, then 2000. then i used some plastX made by meguiars with the mini power ball from mothers. i did a few coats of that and then put some meguiars NXT 2.0 to finish it all off.
i can post before and after pics if youd like, i just have to get them off my camera.

ok, so i was at autozone for the 3rd time after trying like 3 different cheap bottles of "headlight polish" all it managed to do is put a shiny coat over the yellow on my headlight. my aim was to make the original headlight on the passenger side from 1999 look like the new one from 2010. (see sig pic)

anyway, after using the 3m kit im hooked. basically you get like 4 or 5 500 grit sanding disks, 4 or 5 800 grit discs, and "teraza 1300 grit disk" (reusable foam disk) and a foam buffing pad that comes with a packet simmilar to a ketchup packet filled with polishing compound. all these things go on the included wheel that goes into the chuck of a drill.

basically the directions tell you to work your way up in the order i just typed the contents of the box. and if you arent for sure what to do, they provide a link to a video on what to do.

long story short, i got my foggy headlight looking bran new, with no yellowing what so ever. for a before pic, look here>>

Nothing more then a good rubbing compound and some high polish...

You will need a variable speed buffer..

When I say good compound I don't mean turtle wax

Not many take the time to tape up the paint first. One opps and there is no recovering from the damage.

I usually just use some of the polish I have lying around to fix headlight lenses. My neighbors love it. LOL

I have seen some guys do the wetsanding on really bad headlights and that works wonders as well.
