3 Attachment(s)
this is to fix the drivers door panel and rust at the bottom, repaint the body moulding, blend it into the fender and re-pinstripe fender and door

Attachment 40888

also to repaint the lower section of the passenger side door

Attachment 40889

Attachment 40890

not a bad deal I think, anyone think I should be able to find lower than that?

Re: got a paint quote for the Park Ave today

Shopping around couldn't hurt. ;)

1994se 10-12-2007 08:06 PM

That sounds pretty reasonable. It's actually giving me some confidence to go get a quote on my peeling roof rail area paint.

Peterg22000 10-12-2007 08:28 PM

yeah thats a screaming deal!!!

infact as a painter Id be pissed if I had to do that job for so little :?

McGrath 10-12-2007 08:55 PM

Sounds like a sweet deal to me too!

wjcollier07 10-12-2007 09:32 PM

Nice engine description

Yeah, like i said, thats a great deal..and much less work for you.

95SLE 10-12-2007 10:23 PM

Just out of curiosity do you think you will get another 6 to 8 hundred, when you sell it, if the paint work is done?

dillcc 10-12-2007 10:27 PM

Wow good deal, and I didn't know you downgraded the motor?! Tryin to get more out of the deal?

absolutely... the door is pretty bad..

GoldenBullet 10-12-2007 11:10 PM

id hit it, asap. itll bring up the value a good amount too

Peterg22000 10-13-2007 12:10 AM

It say Blend the fender... but i looks to ne that the fender is already the wrong color. considering the only real point the the fender touchs (other then the door) is the hood(that is a a drasticly different angle) id have the fender painted solid (compleat/no blend)

Aslong as they blend the door back, you'll be ok ;)

BonneMeMN 10-13-2007 01:19 AM

Check out snell, they were my best quote for my work...

crash93ssei 10-13-2007 02:39 AM

Sounds like a very good deal to me as long as they do quality work. You probably already know that crappy work will most likely just end up costing more in the end.

the fender is the correct color, but it does not match the car perfect. the guy said that just like him, GM mixes paint everyday and sometimes it can be a tad different. He said the tricoat really messes with that also. He will do the best he can.

alexcoqui 10-13-2007 05:21 PM

I would check other work they have done. Remember that you get what you pay for. & usually cheap means cheap. If what you want is to hide the rust so you can sell the car better, I say great price. But if you plan to stay with the car, then you problably wont be 100% satisfied at the end.

smellbird 10-15-2007 07:04 PM

I'd say that is a pretty good deal. I doubt you will find much lower than that.

harofreak00 10-17-2007 08:48 PM

Got 2 more quotes today:

Snell: 800-900

Chuck's: Won't touch it :?

I'd stick with the other guys then. The Color is a bitch to match though, wonder where they'll get their paint.

harofreak00 10-18-2007 10:50 AM

how concerned should I be about perfection? This paint is strictly to be good enough to sell the vehicle. Possbile that it would look worse than it is? Peter?

A lot of reputable shops won't touch rust because they can't guarantee it won't return.

Allmachtige 10-18-2007 12:25 PM

If you're just doing this to resell it go for that deal under 500, but I've never seen a $500 paint job that lasts. For roughly 2 years it should hold up fine.

HurstGN 10-18-2007 01:16 PM

If it's strictly for resale value, do it. If somebody looks at the car and something glaring stands out at them, they may be more inclined to nitpick and look for more problems, and try dicketing the price lower. If there's less to complain about, then there's less to dicker over and you have an easier time selling.

GonneVille 10-19-2007 09:18 PM

Make sure to look at some of their other work before committing. Make sure they're worth the money...

harofreak00 10-29-2007 10:22 AM

I had got another quote last Thursday from Heintz collision center=$1100.

I dropped it off at Al's Auto Body yesterday, he said it should be done by Wednesday or Thursday :D

dillcc 10-29-2007 10:58 PM

Man, I can't wait to see the results!

GoldenBullet 10-29-2007 11:48 PM

hope it turns out good :)

bonnie94ssei 10-30-2007 08:58 AM

I'm surprised they won't touch it. It's not like it's UNIBODY rust that will cause a safety concern. I've gone to several shops to get quotes to fix rust before, and they just state they can't guarantee it won't return. They've never REFUSED work.

Anything is better than what you have now.

bandit 10-30-2007 09:00 AM

nice, i cant wait to see what this thing looks like when its done. :)

that is what I am going for. I know for almost half price of all the other shops, I am not expecting a miracle. I just need it good enough to sell :D

BillBoost37 10-30-2007 10:35 AM

That seems like a screaming price.

2000SilverBullet 10-31-2007 12:32 AM

The original quote is a very good deal. $40 / hr rate is much better than the $85/hr rate out west. Cost me $300 just to repaint my back bumper for a fist sized mar.

I would have guessed a minimum $750. job.

From the looks of it, you need to get it done ASAP.

it will be complete today or tomorrow. :D

lash 10-31-2007 10:34 AM

I'm in late on this, but I also say that's a screaming deal. I once repaired some dings and painted a few spots on my metallic silver Olds Cierra for $400, vs.the $1000+ quoted by other shops and was very pleased with the results. While there was one blended area that you could tell at the right angle, it was a great paint job that lasted at least the 6 years until I donated the car.

I think you'll be pleased, unless they totally botch it up, which seems unlikely.

*B2* 10-31-2007 05:08 PM

The only problem I could see is that it is a pearl which could be hard to blend

I drove by the shop today and it happened to be sitting outside. He said he was letting it dry cuz he had just got all the dust off. All the body work is done and he is going to paint it tomorrow. He showed me a test panel that he painted to try to get a close match. He painted the metal white and then a ton of different layers of pearl coat. He decided he will have to do 7 layers of pearl to get it to match  He said it should be done tomorrow evening, but I think I will pick it up Friday night.

There is no wavy line in the primer, that is only a shadow of my Bonneville

Peterg22000 10-31-2007 11:21 PM

wow, Im surprised he did a "let down panle"for it.. I havent done one of those since school.
Im also surprised he said it would take 7 layers of pearl.. it normaly only takes me 3-4 :?

oh well, what ever works :P

harofreak00 11-01-2007 04:30 PM

Got the call around noon today. He is done

I will stop and look at it tonight, but I don't think I will have a way to get both cars home tonight, since the shop is 40 miles from my home.

harofreak00 11-02-2007 09:37 AM

I went and looked at it last night  :D it looks great. He still had it in the booth and was putting the pin stripe on, but the color and quality looked great. He went above and beyond the call of duty and painted more than he said he would. He painted all of the lower rocker panels

This car is going to be mint!

The bill was still $479.20, but I tipped him for his extra work and gave him an even $500

I'll be bringing it home tonight, and you KNOW there will be pics ;)
