Default Door panel

On my '93 SSE the door panel chipped and was getting caught on the outside of the car when I opened the door. It made a really nasty creaking sound. My dad sawed a small piece of the lower door panel off, so that it wouldn't catch anymore. I think it might still be rubbing, though. Do you think it'* just the cold, or something I should check out? Also, what can I do to make my door panel not look all busted up?

Foamy plastic stuff? I don't remember seeing anything like that on mine....

Do you think pulling the interior panel off the door would help you find some cure?
