If so, that is really just for waxing. It'* isn't as powerful, and you are stuck with the large pad. You need something like this:

It has a variable speed dial and is more powerful, and it is compatible with different sized backing plates so you can put smaller pads on it. The lower speed and large pad on the 10 inch type polishers don't give you enough power and pressure to remove scratches and swirls.

To use the Craftsman machine you will need to attach an 6 in Velcro backing plate and use 8 inch foam pads. Can you attach a plate to the buffer?

Yup, that is a random orbital one. You should have no problem using it. I ( "I" being 95SLE and petraman ) used a random orbital buffer on both of my cars and the results were amazing

Not to be too negative, those ten inch buffers are very limited. I haven't used one myself, but I've read from many people that they don't help much for polishing. They can remove light swirls, but nothing more. I don't believe you can change the pads, all you can do is put on bonnets, so it limits the aggressiveness and they don't have the power of the other machines. That Craftsman only does 2400 orbits, while the Porter Cable I have goes up to like 5600 orbits. To do proper polishing you need a machine like the Porter Cable that can accept screw in backing plates which have a velcro surface that different pads adhere to. Good luck finding a decent priced Porter Cable now though. About six months to a year ago they all went on clearance at Lowes for like $50 and almost no one can find them. I believe many detailing places online carry them yet, but at a higher price tag around $130.

For $90 you can buy a Dewalt at Lowes, but make sure it'* the one with variable speed. The only problem with those is the backing plate is fixed, and is like 6", so you can't use pads smaller than 6". But it does have more power than the Porter Cable, so that could offset not being able to use smaller pads (for more correction).
