Default Cop pulled wife over - tinted windows

I've had this car for 16 months and suddenly a cop pulls my wife over and says the windows are too dark. Speaking of the GXP, BTW.

He tests them and says they're a 29 and they must be a 35.

I bought this car with the windows already tinted in another state (Nebraska) that also
has a 35% law. Stupid A$$ car dealership.

This sucks.

Do I find a shop to just replace the fronts. Or would that look bad or be difficult to match properly.
Should I just have them all removed? I like them, especially on BLACK cars.

tell them that the car was bought at a dealership. It'* not your fault they allowed to sell a car with illegal tint. And also that your wife likes the security of knowing the creepy guys driving beside her can't see what she looks like so no obscene gestures can be made.

It is the OWNER'* responsibility regardless of who sold it or who did it.

Call some local tint shops and find the score. Aftermarket tinting over OEM tinted glass will end up darker than legal. Your tint shop has to be intelligent enough to do the math, and add two really big 2-digit numbers together.

hmm here if a car comes from factory with selected parts and it'* on the accessory list for the car it is considered legal since the car came from factory that way. granted not to sure if it was a used car though. But dealerships shouldn't be able to sell cars that aren't legal.

Read his signature, Stitch. The car didn't come from the factory to him. He bought it used, and as he said, it was originally sold in another state.

FYI, dealerships don't get in the habit of tint-testing before they sell used vehicles. As I said, call a local tint shop and find out what it'll cost.

My real question was if anyone knows anything about the tint and the options for getting this corrected.

I know nothing about this stuff, and I don't want a tint shop to feed me a bunch of bull and make me spend $$$$ for something that is cheap / easy to fix.

So the actual questions are this:
> Does it look stupid to put a lighter tint on the front windows only?
This is my plan, but I don't want to find out later it looks retarded.
> Will a shop be able to match color/tint (in a lighter version) to the rest of the car if they
were not the original installer?
The shop may make promises they can't keep and I want to come armed with info.

I bought the car used, it is my responsibility to fix. Sorry about the confusion.

IMO, you should contact a local tint shop and ask their advice. They may cut you a deal if you re-do only the front and want to match the rear later. Discuss that with them.

(for those that don't know, tint laws are for law enforcement safety)

These 16 Police Comments were taken off actual police car videos around the country:

13. "You know, stop lights don't come any redder than the one you just went through."
14. "Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they're new. They stretch after awhile."
15. "If you take your hands off the car, I'll make your birth certificate a worthless document."
16. "If you run, you'll only go to jail tired."
17. "Can you run faster than 1200 feet per second? Because that'* the speed of the bullet that'll be chasing you."
18. "You don't know how fast you were going? I guess that means I can write anything I want to on the ticket, huh?"
19. "Yes,sir, you can talk to the shift supervisor, but I don't think it will help. Oh, did I mention that I am the shift supervisor?"
20. "Warning! You want a warning? OK., I'm warning you not to do that again or I'll give you another ticket."
21. "The answer to this last question will determine whether you are drunk or not. Was Mickey Mouse a cat or a dog?"
22. "Fair? You want me to be fair? Listen, fair is a place where you go to ride on rides, eat cotton candy and corn dogs and step in monkey poop."
23. "Yeah, we have a quota. Two more tickets and my wife gets a toaster oven."
24. "In God we trust, all others we run through NCIC."
25. "How big were those 'two beers' you say you had?"
26. "No sir, we don't have quotas anymore. We used to, but now we're allowed to write as many tickets as we can."
27. "I'm glad to hear that the Chief (of Police) is a personal friend of yours. So you know someone who can post your bail."

AND THE WINNER IS....

28. "You didn't think we give pretty women tickets? You're right, we don't. Sign here."

OK, where'* #1-12 on the quotes?

Back on topic...find out the regs like posted earlier. A reputable tint shop will know what is and isn't legal. I know, been there, done that. But I fought the law, and I won! I had the assistance of having somebody look up "every" mention of glazing in the PA vehicle code. Odd how many places where tint on glazing was allowed, but only one mention where it wasn't. The cop cited me on one where it was allowed, his mistake. I cited every point to the judge except the one where it wasn't allowed. The cop was pissed, and even the judge warned me to avoid his beat in town for a while till he cooled off. He was really pissed. So I won...but about a month or so later I suffered damage to the tint and instead of re-doing it, I removed it. Wasn't worth the hassle anymore.

Know what is allowed and just do it to the extent it is allowed. Any more and it'* just a hassle. Plus from the cops side of things, you'll be treated far more severely if he can't see in the vehicle to see what you're doing. The cop is just looking out for his/her safety at that point. With so many loons on the road anymore, I can't blame a cop for being cautious. I'd shoot first then ask questions later. That'* why I'm not a cop.
