Cleaning Suede? Alcantara? (or whatever it is)
I have scoured the internet including this forum and can't find a definative answer on how to clean the faux suede on the '05 GXP Lots of ideas but none that says "this works great! this is the answer! Oh boy, oh boy I finally found it!" Suggestions range from erasures to vinegar, Woolite to plain water plus lots and lots of other ideas. Has anyone tried a particular cleaning method they can recommend without hesitation? I would be forever grateful.

After very exhaustive scientific research (in other words wondering the web aimlessly) I have discovered the faux suede used in the GXP is in fact Escaine and not Alcantara. (who knew?) Again if anyone knows of a best way of cleaning this material (mine is really dirty and what appears to be water stained) I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I dont allow dirty clothes or children in my car, so I havent had a real problem with mine. What dirt has happened cleaned well with soaking it with Armour All and briskly rubbing dry with a fresh microtex cloth. 2 years down the road I havent seen any bad effects with using it.

Unfortunately my “Escaine” was dirty when I bought the car. Bought the ’05 last month (09/2008 ) from an 80 year old gentleman and had only 10,700 miles on it (the car, not the owner) He really liked the car, just never drove it much (no kidding) Not sure if mama wasn’t very good at laundry or what happened to the driver seat but rather dirty for such a low mile car. Anyway, just to clarify your answer you use Armor All?... the white milky stuff that makes tires shine on the faux suede? You’re kidding me, right?

Armor All isnt for tires.I quess you could use it on them, but better products are made specifically for tires. LOL. It'* an all purpose "interior" cleaner/protectorant for leather/vinyl. The fake suede is of some sort of vinyl/plastic compound and its works great on it without bleaching/drying it out.
