As alot of you know (from my "Something dont seam right" thread) that i have FINALLY started the bodywork and paint on my car :D so i desided to start a new thread about it that i will be constantly updating as the work progresses, so that you all can see what actually goes into the repair and paint of a car ;)

Ill start off with what the car looked like prior to any work

Attachment 62495
Attachment 62496

Now some of what i have done thuse far
removed and sanded off all damaged paint from rear spoiler
Attachment 62497
Primed ones and sanded only to find that there was a wavy section throughthe middle (the white parts)
Attachment 62498
primed again and final sanded starting with 320grit finishing with 800grit ( all the primer in this thread will be done that way
;) Attachment 62499
In the booth cleaned and ready to paint

PAINTED :!:
Attachment 62500
Attachment 62501
Attachment 62502
Rear bumper after repair and first priming (sorry for no pics of the repair process)
Attachment 62503
Attachment 62504
Im my case the painter who did the bumper last time did not prep it correctly and that paint was all removed with a preser washer  (most will not do that)
Attachment 62505
After that primer was sanded smooth the whole bumper was then scuffed and primed compleatly (this was to insure proper adhesion over the raw plastic (oddly those pics didnt turn out so ill have to take them again tommorow :?
I then installed the rear spoiler and rear bumper because i had to get home some how, and the real work will not start till after i get back from next weeks Vacation :D

Gumball 07-19-2006 09:16 PM

the bumper looks huge in primer grey.

I like the progress idea Pete, I'll keep track of your work. ;)

dbeast420 07-19-2006 09:19 PM

Looks like I'm gonna have to head to the Land of Ice and Snow for my paint job

bonnie94ssei 07-19-2006 10:53 PM

Looking good! Bumper looks much better so far! 8) Spoiler is gorgeous!

erics95se 07-20-2006 12:35 AM

I think I'm nuts.. but I'm curious to see how an SSEi with those wheels would look.. ALL IN GRAY PRIMER..

That wing is gorgeous.

Good luck, peter. That car is a diamond in the rough

Update time :!:

Rear bumper is now finished!

Here it is fully primed and ready to be sanded down
Attachment 62428
And here it is after 2.5-3 hours of sanding F*** these bumpers have a LOT of contures :x and in the booth to be painted

Attachment 62432
First step the application of Polyuroxy wet-on-wet sealer

Attachment 62437
https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a...tribute441.jpg
Now I installed it, I had to replace alot of worn out or missing Fastners :x so now the bumper fits much snugger so im really happy about that. I also took a pair of Channel locks and squesed the two metal brackets with the mounting studs flatter so that the bumper didnt sag on the to sides (common on our cars, and most noticeable just under the tail light @ the quarter)

take note of the better alignment

and how the fresh paint looks incomparison the theold paint (camers flash make it much more drastic)

This is the first time I've stumbled onto this thread, and I must say, the new paint job looks incredible, man! I can't find any overspray in any of the pics (could be resolution), and the color matches very nicely. Kudos, man!

big_news_1 10-13-2006 02:17 AM

Yeah, this is my first time seeing this as well. Excellent job, Peter! I wish you lived a few thousand miles closer to Phoenix!

OVERSPRAY? On what? All the painting has been on individual parts in a paint booth. You don't get overspray from a professional painter of PG's skill level. BTW.. this is what PeterG does for a living and he's damn good at it.

First I'm seeing this thread also...where the heck have I been?

Really fine work, Peter!!!

This is a great thread for those that want an idea of what it takes to do good paint work. Having done a lot of custom woodwork and refinishing, I know that the sanding and surface prep take the most time. Do you want to give us a rough idea of the hours spent on each piece?

IMHO, those are good labor hours when considering the quality of the work done. I guess that's the the practice and the experience that comes from doing it for a living.

Very skillful technique Peter.

I should have known from the quality of that excellent Ram Air Light you modified for me that you have talent. The scoop is painted to a perfect mirror black trim finish.

You should have that Bonne perfect......but it does take a lot of time to do it right.

95SLE 10-19-2006 12:30 PM

Ok Peter, at the next NEBF you have to put on a clinic for us painter wannabees on how to paint on a budget and still get decent results.

The vids were very informative. Wish I had a paint booth big enough for a car. LOL.

BillBoost37 04-10-2007 06:34 AM

Go get it tiger!
