These exhaust tips keep falling off, so I'm going to ghetto-fix them to the SLE and get some shinier, bigger ones for my 94. It was raining the whole time, but then it really started coming down. I should finish tomorrow, though.

These tips use two M8 0.5 screws on one side to squeeze exhaust pipes, but that never works. I drilled out slightly bigger holes one one side...

I bought some 3-inch 10-24 rods and nuts.

I wouldn't mind the SLE'* OE tips, but one was broken off.


I washed my crawler with Armor All. It looks slightly better now.


Now I just need to wait for the rain to stop so I can jack up the rear of the SLE and drill holes into its exhaust pipes. I have some metal I'll wrap around the pipes to seal them, and then it should be ghetto-done.

It'* the spray-on stuff, so it'* not as intense as the other Armor All products. The rain water probably helped subdue it a bit.

The rain came down so suddenly yesterday that I forgot to take off the exhaust tips after the test fit. My mom started the car this morning, and she says there was a giant CLANK noise on startup. She thought the car was falling apart. Good thing the tips fell off immediately rather than being lost to the road. I feel like a redneck with fallen off exhaust parts on my driveway.

It'* still raining, though. I hope it stops soon.

Just use 1 bolt, 1" long, what you did is overkill and looks ridiculous.

I considered only using one on one side and putting the nut inside the exhaust pipe, but that'* just no fun. Also, I consulted some exhaust people about this. One guy who worked professionally in an exhaust shop did this to his GP. Hopefully when the metal wrap goes over it, few will actually realize what'* holding these on.

when I got my car both my tips were long gone, I got 2 brand new ones from the dealer for about $40, then I used standard exhaust clamps to hold them on the car, been several months now, and they are still on nice and tight. the key is to turn the clamp so the bolts are upwards and you can't see them.

These exhaust tips fit snugly over my SSEi'* exhaust pipes, but the SLE has about an added 1/8" of clearance. The pipes were widened at the ends on the 99, but the 94 had 2.25" straight out of the muffler. Since I had to cut off the OE tips, I no longer have a snug fit. I don't think a bolt or a clamp would do in this case. In any other case, yes absolutely.

I could go to Harbor Freight and pick up an exhaust pipe stretcher, but that'* just not ghetto... I mean it'* not money saving. I could have as well paid someone else to weld these on. So far, this is a labor intensive $3.96 exhaust tip mounting idea. I just have to figure in the metal that I'll use to wrap and seal these. That'* about $5 more.

Why not just pay someone $10 and have them WELD them on. Do it right, do it once. Do it wrong, do it twice.

one hole and one 1" long bolt will fix both sides .. you're making way too much work for yourself. .

Actually, do it wrong, buy some more. Here, welding costs more for some reason. I can't find a reasonable price anywhere. I'll squeeze the tips so that they have rounded rectangular inlets instead. If I totally fail, they'll still be weldable.
