Phone died
 

My Google Pixel 2 XL decided it either didn't want to charge, hold a charge or stay on. Sometimes I could randomly plug in different chargers and get it turn on, and it would stay on as long as it was plugged in. Disconnect it, it would shut itself off. Finally it decided it wasn't going to work. Thankfully, I still had my old Galaxy Note5 for a backup. Quick swap of the SIM card and I was back in business. I only have 2 more months with the Pixel and I can upgrade. Already have my eye on the Pixel 4XL. No sense using the insurance when its almost paid off.

Very interesting.... I have actually been using insurance as an upgrade plan for about the last 3 phones, since the phone companies have moved to financing the phone, and moving away from contracts. AT&T charges more per line when you initiate a contract, canceling out the savings anyway.

If you insurance swap, you could possibly end up with a phone to sell, or even a possible upgrade, depending on how the deductible goes.

I have been contemplating the move to the XFinity mobile service however, as it seems like it's dirt cheap if you already have comcast (I do), and I really don't use much roving data anyway.

Sounds like the battery is toast. Is it replaceable?

The manufacturer says the battery is of the non-replaceable type. Which means its glued in. I found a video on Google showing how to remove the battery safely.

I was able to take the phone apart and disconnect the battery for few mins. Put it back together and I plugged it back in. It turned right on, but would just shut right down. After a few mins of it 'charging', it would turn on and stay on. Let it charge overnight, still sits at 2%. Unplugged it, immediately starts to shutdown. Batteries are $15 on amazon. I'm not really certain if its a battery issue or a charging issue with the phone. I have my Note5, that will do me until I upgrade in the next month or so.

On a side note, when it comes time to upgrade phones, don't fall for the trade in scam. They typically only offer $35 for a trade in, no matter the condition. Its in your best interest to keep your old phone. Especially if you are able to transfer the SIM card from one phone to the other. Like in my case, I can go online to Verizon and switch phones via their website, but both phones have to be functioning to receive the authorizing text message. So I had to actually change out SIM cards to activate my Note5.

Yeah, you could fiddle with replacing the battery, but it sounds like it's not worth it in your situation.

No its not. Granted, its only $15 for a new battery, but its the expectation of failure that bothers me. LOL

Yeah it sucks. On the bright side, it's smaller and less expensive than if they put the correct-sized battery on it.

And better for the environment yada yada.

. . . or maybe worse considering how many batteries and entire phones get tossed because the batteries are too small and wear out too fast. I wonder if someone has crunched the numbers on that.

Dang non replaceable battery, that would suck.
I bought a new Samsung and it thankfully has a interchangeable battery, and threw in a new micro 64 gig stick for extra memory.
For added on the go USB charging/ power away from vehicles, got a power bank that works great too.

Decided to try a new battery. I can't even get the thing to boot up anymore. It's a $1000 paper weight now. LOL.
