Default Sluggish Impala

Ok, I'll admit, I'm nit-picking

But lately, sometimes it'* been a bit sluggish accelerating, and when it is, the engine sounds much louder than it usually is. It goes away from time to time, but comes back after a bit...

Any ideas where to start, besides a full tune-up?

How about doing a full tune up to start with so you eliminate all possibliites from the tune up.

I'm not doing a full tune up until the summer (or when it'* when I have enough money to do it right ), so I was asking if there was anything else I can check. Particularly the fuel filter, is there a way to check that?

Just found out my plugs and wires are original. Pulled the plugs and they looked pretty worn and they probably need to be re-gapped... I'll be giving it a tune-up when I do the UIM/LIM gaskets some time in the next couple months...

Fuel filters are cheap - less than $7 IIRC... I think I read somewhere they should be changed out at 15k-20k miles.... if you have 54k on the clock, it wouldn't hurt to change it. I have mine changed once a year during one of my oil changes.
