Sounds like the terminals aren't making contact very well, either from being loose or dirty or both. Mine'* done that a few times.

You are correct sir.
I learned two things:
1) Never trust anyone to test anything; or 'trust but verify.' The alternator was only creating 12.5 volts, not charging the battery.
2) Trouble can come in pairs.
3) PassKey was a horribly applied idea that may have looked good on paper.

Yes, it has a PassKey issue with the keys, especially her main key. Due to this fact, I could not jump start the car to test the alternator, so I had to remove it and get it "bench tested" by obvious morons who do not know what they are doing.

Oh, I also learned that the Passkey system acts up even more when the battery goes below spec.

Thanks for your grand assistance!

So there were two "technicians" testing the alternator?

I think it did a good job of making auto theft of GM vehicles more that five seconds with a screwdriver like it was for many GM models right up until PassKey came out. Mine are both still good with 240,000 miles and 23 years on one and 200,000 miles and 25 years on the other. That having been said, yes it did have problems in general, and many that would have had the problem died of something stupider first. It'* like humans, in the olden days most humans didn't get cancer because they died of something else too early. That having been said, once they went contactless with key security we were all better off.

LOL just think . . . when they grow up big and strong they'll be real live auto technicians at Walmart or something.

That'* weird. I've had battery issues a few times over the years with both of mine and they never had an issue "trying" all the way to "cliclicliclicliclicliclicliclick".

Modules tend to go funky when system voltages go below or above spec.

The computers on Volvo and Mack trucks will shutdown if voltage is above or below spec. Then we will have a butt load of communication faults.

This...

Between the idiot bench testing her alternator incorrectly to the PassKey system being a real bitch (especially at low voltage/amperage), it was a problematic troubleshoot. But, in the end a new alternator and a $0.20 resistor and now it'* running as designed again.

Thanks for assisting and listening to our issues!!

NP, I also like seeing the conclusion on forums when I'm searching for answers to crazy issues so you really know if this might be yours. Again, thanks for batting this ball back and forth with me as it not only assists in discovering the answer, but it also assists in keeping one'* sanity while troubleshooting "newer" cars, haha!
