I have a 2009 Chevy Malibu that has been at a GM/Chevy dealer for 20 days getting a SRTA tranny put in. It had about 107000 miles on it when the tranny "died". They are having all kinds of trouble putting it in and getting it to work. I am concerned about this rebuilt being any good as the warranty is actually only 1yr or 12,000 miles. Has anyone else had to replace a tranny in this car? It is the first year for the manual 6 speed tranny as well as auto. Thanks.

I thought a GM dealer installing a replacement trans was a 36 month GM backed nationwide warranty. Might want to see why you are not getting thr 36 month nationwide GM warranty.

It is not a "new" tranny but a rebuilt one. I guess that'* why??? I will ask though, I have quite a few questions for them. Thank you.

Make sure they provide proof they flushed the trans cooler. If not you will be back in with transmission trouble. Check your receipts it should have around 15 quarts or fluid billed to the ticket. And yes srta means it'* a rebuild.

They must have changed the warranty. When I worked for gm the serta tranny had a better warranty than the original factory warranty did.

Thanks a lot. Like I said. I have a few questions for them. I hope they know what they are doing cause 20 days, now 21, seems like A LOT to rebuild a tranny at a GM shop. They just keep having problems.

As a former GM mechanic I installed a number of the SRTA transmissions. As far as I can remember I only had one that didn't last past the warranty period and I'm not sure it wasn't because of abuse. Kind of hard to prove. Hope it all works out for you.

My old Bonneville had a SRTA 4T60-E installed at around 60,000 miles. I don't know anything about the warranty that it had, but the first owner and I were able to squeeze 170,000 miles out of it.

Just my two cents' worth of experience. That was over ten years ago, so the build quality of SRTA'*, like all things, have likely changed.

IF it truly is a GM rebuild my confidence level would go up, as I know they would use all the latest specified updated parts in their build!
