Chevy cobalt tc light
HI everyone,
I have a 2005 chevy cobalt. Wasn't having any problems until recently the tc light comes on ... engine loses power. However I can't get it to shut off. No matter what we try. It will randomly turn off or randomly stay on and not let the car operate. Sometimes I go for 2 days without it going off. The other day it was 30 miles and the tc came on .... tried everything to get it off as suggested in the book. It would not shut off so I drove back to my cousins who is a certified mechanic. Half way to his place ... it'* like turbo kicked in. Tc light still on but able to accelerate up to 70mph. When this first kicks on it cuts engine power down so you can only drive 30 miles a hour. But the engine revs at 5000 rpms.which can't be good for the engine. I think there should be a recall for this issue. I have seen 1000'* complain about the same problem. Why did chevy make a car that has no tc button to shut it off ? And what can be done to fix this issue. I can't even drive my car as it comes on at such random moments. As I said I will drive it like that and then all of a sudden it kicks in and goes like a bat ouT of hell. But light is still on and the check engine light. If anyone has had this issue please get back to me on what the problem was and how it got fixed. There was a recall on that feature I guess but not my year they said. Help help help thanks Sue

Your comment about only being able to drive 30 miles per hour but the engine is revving at 5000 RPM leads me to believe you have a transmission problem and the transmission is going into limp mode. That means the transmission is locked into 2nd or 3rd gear (not sure which on the 05 Cobalt) so you can drive the car some place to have the transmission serviced. The TC light might only be a symptom of the transmission problem, not a problem in itself. Is your cousin knowledgeable about transmissions? Can he (did he) scan for trouble codes?
I think you need a transmission rebuild, but course I could be completely wrong, and someone else might chime in with an easy fix for a common condition on the 05 Cobalt.
