I have a 1994 Gmc Sierra extended cab 4x4 with limited slip rear end. It has a 350 in it. I also have a 1994 Chevy Astro awd ext. with a 4.3 in it. Lastly is my Buick park avenue ultra 3.8 SC. From a previous post the v and r series were the suburbans and the c and k were the pickups due to the pickups and suburbans haveing differnent bodies for a few years.

1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks were R and V versions in only 1987. Fullsize Blazers and Suburbans were R and V versions from 1987 to 1991. Some 1 tons were R and V from 1987 to 1991, but some weren't. All R and V versions looked basicly like the 73-86 body style (box look).
