95 cavalier gasket asbestos?
Wanted to know if the egr valve gasket on a 1995 chevy cavalier was asbestos. This was a sandwich style gasket with composition material between. Believe the part was acdelco 1007547, and would have been used from 1982 to 1995 on various cars.
Had been replacing egr valve and was scraping away old gasket material off what I thought was a spacer but what I'm not thinking was the metal bottom to a sandwich style gasket. So now wondering if that composition material I was scraping off for long time was asbestos or not.
Would asbestos gaskets have been phased out by then 1982-1995, or still used. Having a hard time finding out when the transition was.
Would a sandwich style gasket like this, two layers of steel with hard composite between necessarily be asbestos or were other materials be used as well?
