Update: The transmission guy at a GM dealership confirmed that the 2014 trans will NOT work in my 2008. He believed that a 2010 would, most likely, be the newest trans that would work. This was backed up by the owner of the transmission shop that I contacted. Both he and another friend that owns an auto repair shop are looking into options ranging from a used transmission to rebuilding mine. No response to my calls to the auction house yesterday. I hope to have information from all of them on Monday. Stay tuned...

So how does this work, do you have to wait for final word from the auction house before you risk committing major money to the car?

I don't have to wait for the final word from the auction house as I have the title and everything in hand. I can simply drop my "case" with them and the seller and get it fixed. I've already committed $ to license, insure, and detail the car. I will have an answer from the Auction house before I make a move on the transmission as it may be more cost effective to eat my loss of around $300 and recoup the purchase price and auction fees if they can make that happen without additional cost/grief. We'll see. Hopefully today.

Should be the end of the story. The Auction house has agreed to refund the money I paid for the vehicle plus their fees. They are also going to deal with reverting the title back to the owner. I'll be out about $300, but the transmission was going to be a minimum of $2k so I decided to cut ties with the vehicle. It'* back at the auction house and I expect to get my refund tomorrow. I don't normally throw in the towel on these projects, but this one looked like it could be a no win. Thanks CathedralCub for all the information and interest.

Good that the auction house stands behind the sale as much as they did!
