Default 2006 monte carlo lt

when i bought my car, the guy gave me a gasket that he said goes on where the filter screws on at. Can anyone tell me if there is something to be taken off, so that the gasket can be put on??????
It has 3 holes in it and 1 slot. and it looks as though the filter just screws up to that.
Thanks for any help on this.

ok, it is called a oil filter adaptor. it only costs like 8 bucks. But none of the oil change places will put it on, cause it has to do with putting a wrench on the motor.....So, I need to find out how hard it is to put on.
I tried to take a picture of it, and send it to my email, and then attach it, but i cant get to it to do that.
So here is a discription..... it is 3 1/2 across, and has 2 holes and 1 slot on it.
It goes up into the oil filter housing, and then the oil filter screws up to it tight.
Hope this helps you guys out some.
Thanks for any help.
