Question 1998 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 - Mystery Wires

Hi folks! I was into and around the steering column of my '98 Chevy Cavalier yesterday trying to get the Passlock system to work consistently (imagine that!) when I spotted two connectors under the dash, to the left of the clutch pedal, that weren't hooked up to anything.

Now, my guess is that they are for accessories that this car doesn't have, or perhaps they originally connected to the factory radio (there'* an after market radio in this car). However, I would really like to know for sure, preferably without tearing 50 things apart to find out where they go. Anybody on here know what they're for? I'll attach a picture to this post as well, but one is a two-wire female connector with black/black-white wires, and the other is a three-wire female connector with black/orange/red wires.

Wow, that looks like a really long harness, unless you cut it off. Too long to be anything factory.

You're right, they're really long, and they were just folded up and wrapped around the other wires back there. Maybe they're not factory. I know someone during this car'* life has been fiddling with the wiring in there because one of the ignition wires has a wire nut on it.

Sounds like possibly the makings of a remote start or security/anti-theft system.

That'* a distinct possibility. Maybe a remote start was installed, then taken back out before it was sold.

Somebody either installed or attempted to install a devise. What are the other ends connected to?

That'* what I don't know. They both disappear up into the dash, so I was hoping someone would spot these and say, "Aha! I know exactly what they are..." so that I wouldn't have to unearth the other ends. But, and it'* starting to sound like this is the case, if they're not factory, I don't think I'm going to get that kind of an answer.

I wonder if they do up to the aftermarket radio for external (steering wheel) volume controls etc.

If you can pull the radio out far enough, you could check for the same wires connected there.

You know, I hadn't thought about that. They'd be about the right size and type for that sort of thing. I'll check it out!

I'm curious what you find.
